Adam Sartin killed in Sugar Creek Township tractor-trailer accident

Incident occurred Tuesday afternoon along U.S. Highway 30

SUGAR CREEK TOWNSHIP, OH, (November 12, 2024) - Adam Sartin, age 41, a resident of Orrville, tragically lost his life in a collision involving a pickup truck and a commercial tractor-trailer on U.S. Route 30 at the intersection with Kohler Road (TR-129) on Tuesday afternoon. The accident happened at approximately 2:38 p.m.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a tractor-trailer driven by a 34-year-old from Pleasantville, New Jersey, was stopped to make a left turn onto Kohler Road when it was struck from the rear by a 1999 Toyota Tacoma. The Toyota, driven by a 45-year-old from Massillon, collided with the tractor-trailer after failing to maintain its lane.

Sartin, who was the right front passenger in the Toyota Tacoma, sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. The driver of the pickup was extricated by mechanical means and airlifted to Akron General Hospital with incapacitating injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer did not sustain any injuries.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident, with assistance from the Dalton Police Department, Kidron Fire Department, Wayne County Coroner’s Office, and the Ohio Department of Transportation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

In 2018, the U.S. Department of Transportation Fatality Analysis Reporting System recorded 33,654 fatal motor vehicle crashes in the United States, resulting in 36,560 deaths.
