Early Thursday morning crash involving JSO vehicle was on the Mathews Bridge
JACKSONVILLE, FL, (December 26, 2024) - Several people were injured early Thursday morning when an alleged impaired motorist triggered a multi-vehicle crash after striking a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) patrol car on Mathews Bridge.
Aleksandr Bratulin was charged with DUI after an early Thursday morning crash involving a JSO patrol vehicle left multiple people injured in Jacksonville.
According to authorities, a patrol vehicle was stopped with its lights on along the bridge assisting a motorist with a flat tire when a Ford Ranger pickup truck, operated by a 30-year-old Aleksandr Bratulin, crashed into the back of the vehicle around 2:30 a.m. After impact, the patrol car careened into the back of the vehicle with a flat tire.
A passenger in the Ford and the driver of the vehicle with the flat tire were both injured in the crash and taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The officer involved sustained an abrasion.
Bratulin failed field sobriety tests and was charged with multiple DUI-related offenses, careless driving, and failure to move over.
DUI ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION
This accident was clearly preventable. Impaired drivers are a risk to everyone on the road, and can senselessly ruin people's lives.
"Drunken and drugged drivers are subject to criminal charges following an accident or collision that causes harm or kills another person,’’ explained Candice Bond, a Managing Partner at Bond Legal.
“Separate from criminal charges, the family of a victim may be entitled to compensation through a civil lawsuit against the responsible party,” said Bond, an experienced DUI accident attorney.
According to the National Safety Council, the cause of 10 percent of all fatal automobile accidents is drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other medications. These accidents are the second-leading cause of automobile fatalities in this country.
PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM
The victims may be entitled to an injury claim, and they may seek recovery for damages, including medical expenses, future medical care, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma.
“A major injury means that there will be a lot of challenges ahead. Attorneys know how to handle all the legal aspects of a case so a person could focus on healing and moving forward,” Bond, who is also a national legal analyst for Newsline, said.
Bond added, “It doesn’t matter how large an insurance company a victim of a major crash is fighting; an attorney with experience and resources will ensure that the victim's right are protected and injuries are properly compensated.”
