Monday collision at Franklin Boulevard and Sunmeadow Drive
SACRAMENTO, CA, (October 07, 2024) - A fatal car crash occurred Monday morning in south Sacramento and was caused by an alleged intoxicated driver, according to authorities.
Alvin Chand was arrested after a two-vehicle crash early Monday in Sacramento. The other driver died in the wreck.
The incident, which took place at Franklin Boulevard and Sunmeadow Drive, resulted in the death of a sedan driver. Emergency medical services were dispatched shortly before 1 a.m.
The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene. That person's identity was not initially disclosed.
The driver of the SUV driver – later identified as year-old Alvin Chand of Elk Grove – was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Sacramento Police Department reported that he exhibited signs of intoxication and was subsequently detained.
On Tuesday, Sacramento police arrested Chand and booked him into the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of homicide and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
