CUSTER, CO, (October 19, 2024) - A tragic head-on collision on Saturday morning claimed the life of a Custer County paramedic and left one person seriously injured. The accident occurred around 8:45 a.m. on Highway 69, just north of Westcliffe.
One man died and three others were injured as the result of a head-on crash Saturday along Highway 69 in Custer Country.
Andrew Fernandez, age 39, driving a Honda Civic, entered the northbound lanes, and began to spin out. According to the Colorado State Patrol, his vehicle clipped the front of a Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck before coming to rest on the east side of the highway.
Fernandez died in the crash.
The Custer County Sheriff’s Office reported that a man in the second vehicle was seriously injured. Two passengers in the truck sustained minor injuries.
The accident remains under investigation.
HEAD-ON CRASH INVESTIGATION
Head-on crashes are the most dangerous accidents on our roads. Although they account for only two percent of all collisions, they account for more than 10 percent of all crash-related fatalities.
Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, said in cases such as this, it is imperative to have an independent probe conducted into the collision by a seasoned lawyer to protect the rights of the victim’s family.
“Time is of the essence in cases such as this, and the family of the victim must ensure that evidence is reviewed efficiently,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.
“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond.
“Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide a family during this difficult time while vigorously protecting their legal rights and interests.”
PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM
An injured victim may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim, pending the results of the investigation.
Bond said, “Injured victims involved in a collision often seek a personal injury claim to cover the cost of medical bills, future medical care, loss of income, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering.
"Insurance companies can be notoriously unconcerned with the mounting costs that an injured party may accrue. That's where an attorney can help. We protect the victims of these tragedies daily, forcing the insurance companies to pay for their mistakes,” he added.
