Her vehicle was struck at the intersection of Seminole Drive and Malki Road, officials say

CABAZON, CA, (October 03, 2024) - A young woman from Banning lost her life in Cabazon Thursday night after a speeding driver crashed into her vehicle, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.

fatal crash car Carlie Membrin, a 23-year-old Banning resident, was fatally hurt following a high-speed traffic accident in Cabazon Thursday night, the Sheriff's Office said in a release.

Tragically, 23-year-old Carlie Membrin died at the scene as a result of injuries, officials said.

Investigators say a red Ford Mustang convertible disregarded a traffic stop conducted by officers around 9:30 p.m., leading to a pursuit. The Mustang began traveling westbound on Seminole Drive at a high rate of speed, and as the driver approached the intersection of Seminole Drive and Malki Road, he failed to slow down and crashed into Membrin's red Nissan Versa, which was waiting at a stop sign.

The Mustang’s was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

This is an active investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately 16.7 percent of fatalities are caused by speeding motorists. Excessive speed causes many vehicle accidents and increases the likelihood of someone being seriously injured or dying in a wreck.

Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, said an independent probe should be conducted to protect a victim’s rights in cases such as this one.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors that are considered and must thoroughly be examined,” said Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family members of Carlie Membrin may pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident such as this.

“In the wake of a catastrophic accident, families deserve peace of mind. Completing an independent investigation while big insurance corporations want to weaken your case requires an attorney with full knowledge of the complex legal process and resources to fight by your side,” said Bond, a national analyst for Newsline.

“Losing a loved one due to someone else’s negligence is an unimaginable tragedy. While no amount of compensation can bring them back, an experienced attorney can hold responsible parties accountable and help secure justice for your family,” she added.
