Wednesday afternoon crash with SUV was on Sooner Road
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, (October 23, 2024) - The Oklahoma City Police Department is investigating a Wednesday afternoon head-on collision between a passenger vehicle and a motorcycle that fatally injured a 34-year-old man.
Corey Denton was fatally injured Wednesday afternoon when an SUV collided with the motorcycle he was driving along Sooner Road in Oklahoma City.
According to authorities, Corey James Denton was driving a motorcycle northbound along Sooner Road when a southbound Dodge Journey attempted to turn into the entrance of a Sonic and struck the bike near Southeast 149th Street.
Denton was rushed to OU Medical Center where he tragically passed away.
The driver of the Dodge was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
MOTORCYCLE CRASH INVESTIGATION
This accident underscores the dangers that motorcyclists face on our roadways each day. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 6,530 motorcyclists killed on U.S. roadways in 2021, an increase of 9 percent from 2020.
Candice Bond, an experienced motorcycle accident attorney, said in such cases, it is imperative to preserve evidence through an independent probe.
“In addition to a police report, an attorney will carefully review what may have contributed to the crash,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. “Your lawyer has the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct drivers’ background checks, locate witnesses to the crash and review applicable insurance coverage. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide the heartbroken family of a victim during this difficult time, protecting their legal rights while ensuring that a driver is held accountable after disobeying traffic laws.”
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
Pending the investigation, the family of Corey Denton may pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.
"In the wake of a catastrophic accident, families deserve peace of mind. Completing an independent investigation while big insurance corporations want to weaken your case requires an attorney with full knowledge of the complex legal process and resources to fight by your side.
"Losing a loved one due to someone else’s negligence is an unimaginable tragedy. While no amount of compensation can bring them back, an experienced attorney can hold responsible parties accountable and help secure justice for your family."
