Sept. 6 collision happened along S. Twin Oaks Valley Road

SAN MARCOS, CA, (September 06, 2024) - A 76-year-old woman tragically lost her life on September 6th after being hit by a vehicle in San Marcos. 

Police Lights Francisca Garcia Vargas Francisca Garcia Vargas tragically lost her life on Sept. 6 when she was struck by a motorist in San Marcos.

The incident occurred in the evening on S. Twin Oaks Valley Road at North City Drive.

The woman, a resident, was struck by an unspecified sedan while she was walking. 

Emergency services were promptly called, and law enforcement along with fire personnel were dispatched to the scene. Paramedics provided lifesaving measures and transported her to Palomar Medical Center Emergency Department. 

Despite the medical staff's efforts, she was pronounced dead.

The victim was later identified as Francisca Garcia Vargas.

The matter remains under investigation.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION 

This tragic accident underscores the dangers that pedestrians face every day in this country.

According to data from the Governors Highway Safety Association, the number of pedestrian fatalities in the United States has grown substantially faster than all other traffic deaths. An estimated 7,342 pedestrian fatalities occurred in 2021, an increase of 13 percent from the previous year.
