Tuesday night collision happened along South Canfield Road
La Porte City, IA, (September 10, 2024) - On Tuesday night, a tragic car accident in Black Hawk County left a teenager dead and involved five students from Union Community School District in La Porte City.
Gavin Rohrbach sadly lost his life in a two-vehicle crash at South Canfield and Dubuque roads in Black Hawk County.
According to the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office, five teenagers were traveling south on South Canfield Road in a Nissan Pathfinder SUV. At around 9:45 p.m., the driver failed to stop at the Dubuque Road intersection and collided with a westbound Buick Rendezvous SUV.
The 53-year-old driver of the SUV, a Hazleton woman, had to be extricated and was airlifted to the University of Iowa Health Care.
Gavin Rohrbach, age 17, of La Porte City, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other four teens were taken to local hospitals and are expected to recover.
The crash remains under investigation by the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office.
CRASH INVESTIGATION
