The injured patient was taken to Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center (SEORMC)
CAMBRIDGE, OH, (December 04, 2024) - The Cambridge Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol says two people died and one was injured in a crash involving two commercial vehicles on Wednesday along Interstate 77.
Harleen Kaul and the driver of the semi in which she was a passenger were killed in a crash with another commercial truck along Interstate 77 in Guernsey County on Wednesday, the OSHP said.
One of the fatality victims has been identified as Harleen Kaul. Sadly, Kaul died at the scene from injuries.
According to the OSHP, a white Freightliner semi-truck was traveling southbound on the interstate when, for unknown reasons, its driver crossed the median and slammed head-on into a red semi-truck in the northbound lane. Both vehicles caught fire after the impact, leaving the red truck almost unrecognizable. Kaul was a passenger in the white Freightliner, whose driver was also killed.
Medics transported the driver of the red semi to Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center (SEORMC).
This is an ongoing investigation.
CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED
Candice Bond, an experienced commercial accident attorney, said that in such cases, it is imperative to have an independent investigation conducted promptly to protect the rights of a victim.
"Commercial accidents are often complex, and many factors can play a role in these types of accidents," said Bond, a Managing Partner of Bond Legal.
"A skilled attorney can protect victims from trucking companies, which often send their own investigators to crash sites and possess a variety of resources they can utilize to defend a negligent truck driver."
"Your lawyer can advocate for you by hiring expert witnesses, conducting driver background checks, locating witnesses to the crash, and reviewing applicable insurance coverage, while carefully guiding a victim through the legal process."
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
The family of Harleen Kaul may pursue compensation for damages such as costs associated with the death, loss of income and companionship, and other hardships.
"A death to a family member after an accident is both tragic and devastating to a surviving family. The grief, shock, and anger can be overwhelming," said Bond, who is also a national legal analyst for Newsline.
She added, "Aside from the emotional suffering of those left behind, the death of someone close can have devastating financial implications. Loss of income and funeral costs alone can have tragic consequences when a family member is lost."
