1 dead, 1 injured in Saturday night wreck at Highway 17 and Mica Avenue

LITTLE RIVER, SC, (January 18, 2025) - The Horry County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim of a Saturday evening two-vehicle collision in Little River.

SpeedwayHeather Hairston was fatally injured Saturday night in a two-vehicle collision near Highway 17 and Mica Avenue in Horry County.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP), a GMC Acadia traveling northbound along Highway 17 struck a Honda Accord operated by 43-year-old Heather Hairston, of Calabash, North Carolina, near Mica Avenue at approximately 10:45 p.m.

Emergency responders tragically pronounced Hairston dead at the site of the crash.

The driver of the GMC sustained unspecified injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The cause of the wreck remains under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 42,514 people lost their lives in a reported 5,930,496 motor vehicle crashes in the United States in 2022.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors considered and examined,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the results of any investigations, the family of Heather Hairston may pursue a wrongful death claim. Survivors of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

Bond, a national legal analyst for Newsline, said, “Grieving families of victims are sometimes overwhelmed by the legal processes that are in place to protect their rights. An attorney can be a valuable and compassionate resource to help guide a family during difficult times and ensure that those left behind receive the restitution they are entitled to.”

“No amount of money is enough for a victim or their family to deal with the trauma and pain they experienced after a catastrophic crash. However, an attorney can help ease the financial burden and provide a path forward,” Bond stated.
