Deadly collision happened along Route 66 between East 410 Road and East 420 Road, OHP says

ROGERS, OK, (October 20, 2024) - A teen driver from Rogersville led officers on a high-speed chase, at the end of which he crashed into an uninvolved vehicle, killing one person and severely injuring another, the Rogers County Sheriff's Office (RCSO) said.

police lights car crashLogan Harrel lost her life and her mother was badly injured after their vehicle was struck by a stolen car driver fleeing from law enforcement officials Sunday morning in Rogers County, according to authorities.

Logan Harrel, 23, was identified as the deceased victim. Her mother—50-year-old Kimberly Harrel—was flown to a Tulsa hospital.

Investigators say the pursuit began Sunday morning on Route 66 between East 410 Road and East 420 Road when the RCSO officers were informed about a 17-year-old driving a stolen car out of Vinita at a high speed. Shortly after the chase, the suspect got into another car, a black pickup truck, leading to a second pursuit near Foyil. While fleeing from the deputies over the railroad, the Rogersville teen then crashed into a northbound car carrying a mother and daughter.

The Highway Patrol (OHP) officials confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody without announcing charges.

This is an ongoing investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding was the primary cause of fatal crashes in 2018, followed by the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication; failure to stay in the proper lane; failure to yield the right of way; and distracted driving.

While the cause and liability of the crash are being investigated, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, said that it is imperative to have an independent investigation conducted by a seasoned attorney.

“In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview important witnesses, analyze any surveillance video from the scene of the crash, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party,” said Bond.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family members of Logan Harrel may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident.

“We understand that losing a loved one is not only a deeply emotional loss but also an economic one,” said Bond, a national analyst for Newsline.

“If you have lost a loved one due to someone else’s negligence, contact a wrongful death attorney and get the guidance needed to obtain the justice you deserve.”
