Monday night crash with SUV was on U.S. Route 50

CLERMONT, OH, (September 16, 2024) - A Monday night motor vehicle vs. bicycle accident in Clermont County claimed the life of a Fairmont man.

Bike LaneMichael Robinson lost his life Monday night when an SUV struck the bicycle he was riding along U.S. Route 50 in Clermont County.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), a 2019 Chevrolet Traverse traveling along U.S. Route 50 struck 70-year-old bicyclist Michael Robinson, of Fairmont, Nebraska, at approximately 8:10 p.m.

Robinson was tragically pronounced dead at the site of the wreck.

The incident remains under investigation.

BICYCLE CRASH INVESTIGATION

Our roads pose a unique danger for bicycle riders. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 985 cyclists died in motor vehicle accidents in 2021, accounting for a 5 percent increase from the previous year. In most bicyclist deaths, the worst injuries are to the head, highlighting the importance of wearing a bicycle helmet.

“Bicyclists are particularly vulnerable on the road, and many factors can contribute to serious crashes,” said Candice Bond, a managing partner with Bond Legal.

“It is imperative to come to a determination of the exact cause of these types of accidents. An attorney has the resources to review applicable insurance coverage, hire expert witnesses, run background checks, and locate witnesses. We carefully guide the family of the victim through the process.”

In such cases, it is crucial to have an independent investigation conducted quickly to preserve evidence, said Bond, an experienced bicycle accident attorney.

“In addition to a police report, an attorney will carefully review what may have contributed to the crash,” said Bond. “Your lawyer has the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct background checks, locate witnesses to the crash and review applicable insurance coverage. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help guide an injury victim through what can be a complicated process.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the results of any investigations, the family of Michael Robinson may pursue a wrongful death claim. Survivors often seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.

Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal, said, “Grieving families of victims are sometimes overwhelmed by the legal processes that are in place to protect their rights. An attorney can be a valuable and compassionate resource to help guide a family during this difficult time and ensure that those left behind receive the restitution they are entitled to.”
