Seven vehicles involved in collision along Interstate 94
MINNEAPOLIS, MN, (October 23, 2024) - 20-year-old Taniyah Renee Randle-Smith of St. Paul sustained life-threatening injuries in a tragic crash on Interstate 94 in Minneapolis Wednesday night. The collision, involving seven vehicles, led to the death of a 26-year-old Minneapolis woman, who was riding in a Jeep. Her identity has not been released.
Taniyah Randle-Smith suffered life-threatening injuries on Wednesday as the result of a multi-vehicle crash along Interstate 94.
The crash occurred on the eastbound I-94 off-ramp to Lyndale Ave, where a pick-up truck struck multiple vehicles at high speed. The driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Randle-Smith, a passenger in the pick-up, was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries.
A GMC SUV involved in the crash carried six individuals, all of whom were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The drivers of other SUVs were treated at the scene for their injuries. The driver of another car involved in the collision was unharmed.
The crash remains under investigation by the MSP.
DUI ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION
This accident was preventable. Impaired drivers are a risk to everyone on the road, and can senselessly ruin people's lives.
"Drunken and drugged drivers are subject to criminal charges following an accident or collision that causes harm or kills another person,’’ explained Candice Bond, a Managing Partner at Bond Legal.
She added, “Separate from criminal charges, the family of a victim may be entitled to compensation through a civil lawsuit against the responsible party.”
According to the National Safety Council, the cause of 10 percent of all fatal automobile accidents is drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other medications. These accidents are the second-leading cause of automobile fatalities in this country.
PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM
Taniyah Randle-Smith may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim pending an investigation.
Bond said, “Injured victims involved in a collision often seek a personal injury claim to cover the cost of medical bills, future medical care, loss of income, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering.
"Insurance companies can be notoriously unconcerned with the mounting costs that an injured party may accrue. An attorney can help. We protect the victims of these tragedies daily, forcing the insurance companies to pay for their mistakes,” she added.
