Wednesday afternoon collision at Ohio 121 and Conover Road

DARKE, OH, (October 16, 2024) - A two-vehicle crash in Darke County on Wednesday resulted in injuries to three individuals.

Police Lights Brandy Shappie Brandy Shappie was injured on Wednesday afternoon when her vehicle was involved in a collision with an ambulance in Darke County.

The incident occurred around 3:21 p.m. when a white 2021 Ford Transit Ambulance, driven by a 41-year-old resident of Greenville, was traveling west on Ohio 121 with emergency lights and siren activated.

According to preliminary reports, the ambulance attempted to pass two westbound vehicles, including a dump truck, when it collided with a silver 2017 Ford Escape driven by 46-year-old Brandy Shappie of Yorkshire, who was attempting to make a left turn onto Conover Road.

Shappie was transported to the Darke County Airport and then airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment of injuries.

The ambulance driver was treated and released at the scene, while the front seat passenger in the ambulance, a 32-year-old Greenville man, was transported to WayneHealth with unspecified injuries.

The Darke County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Each year, motor vehicle crashes in this country kill roughly 36,000 people and injure 1.9 million more. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding was the primary cause of fatal crashes in 2018, followed by the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication; failure to stay in the proper lane; failure to yield the right of way; and distracted driving.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors considered and examined,” said Candice Bond, an experienced attorney and Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help identify what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Brandy Shappie may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim pending an investigation.

Bond said, “Injured victims involved in a collision often seek a personal injury claim to cover the cost of medical bills, future medical care, loss of income, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering.

"Insurance companies can be notoriously unconcerned with the mounting costs an injured party may accrue. An attorney can help. We protect the victims of these tragedies daily, forcing the insurance companies to pay for their mistakes,” she added.
