Impairment suspected in Friday night six-vehicle crash on Perkins Avenue

PERKINS TOWNSHIP, OH, (September 27, 2024) - Two people were injured Friday night in a six-vehicle collision involving a suspected impaired driver in Perkins Township.

Patrol LightsSapphire Hackathorn was injured Friday night in a multi-vehicle accident involving a suspected impaired motorist in Perkins Township.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says a 2015 Cadillac ATS traveling westbound along Perkins Avenue collided with a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck before careening into oncoming traffic and crashing into a 2012 Ford Focus at approximately 8:12 p.m. Subsequently, the Cadillac struck a Ford Explorer, while the Focus collided with a Ford Escape and a Jeep Cherokee.

The driver of the Focus, 21-year-old Sapphire Hackathorn, was hurt in the wreck and taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The 38-year-old driving the Cadillac was also hurt in the crash.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident but say impairment is a potential factor.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly 2.5 million people were injured in motor vehicle crashes in 2021.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors that are considered and require thorough examination,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Sapphire Hackathorn may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim pending an investigation.

Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal, said, “Injured victims involved in a collision often seek a personal injury claim to cover the cost of medical bills, future medical care, loss of income, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering.”

"Insurance companies can be notoriously unconcerned with the mounting costs that an injured party may accrue. An attorney can help. We protect the victims of these tragedies daily, forcing the insurance companies to pay for their mistakes,” he added.
