The Springfield local was flown to Miami Valley Hospital with life-threatening injuries

HARMONY TOWNSHIP, OH, (September 24, 2024) - The Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) says at least three vehicles were involved in a deadly traffic collision on Interstate 70 near milepost 68 in Harmony Township Tuesday around 7 a.m.

emergency lights car crashMarie Mervil, a 32-year-old Springfield resident, was badly injured as a result of a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 in Harmony Township Tuesday morning, according to authorities.

The fatality victim has been identified as a 39-year-old resident of Indianapolis.

A Kia Forte and a Ford Fusion were traveling in the right lane, while a Nissan Rogue was in the center lane. Authorities say the Kia driver made a lane change from the right lane across all lanes of travel to the left lane and, in the process, failed to maintain control of their vehicle and collided with the Nissan. The Nissan's driver subsequently crashed into the Ford in the right lane. Both of these vehicles—the Ford and Nissan—then ran off the roadway and struck trees.

A passenger in the Nissan—Marie Mervil, 32, of Springfield—was airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital with life-threatening injuries, OSHP said.

This is an ongoing investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

The National Safety Council published a 2018 report that found 4.5 million injuries occurred as a result of motor vehicle crashes.

While the cause and liability of the crash are being investigated, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, said that it is imperative to have an independent investigation conducted by a seasoned attorney.

“In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview important witnesses, analyze any surveillance video from the scene of the crash, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party,” said Bond, a national analyst for The Legal Advocate.

“Time is of the essence in cases such as this, and the victim’s family must ensure that evidence is reviewed efficiently.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the results of the investigation, Marie Mervil may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, noted that the stress and worry following a serious injury could be overwhelming, disrupting all aspects of life, including family, work, finances, and overall quality of life.

“It is vital for victims to hire an attorney when filing a personal injury claim, which allows them to negotiate with an insurance company on behalf of a client,” Formica added.

“Insurance companies often try to pressure victims to settle for a quick payout for far less than the case is worth. However, an attorney will vigorously advocate for their client to ensure that they are treated with respect and compensated fairly.”
