Sunday morning collision happened along U.S. Highway 69
PRYOR, OK, (September 22, 2024) - The Pryor Creek Police Department is searching for the suspected driver involved in a hit-and-run that resulted in the death of 15-year-old Caiden Adkins, who was riding his bicycle early Sunday morning. Police now suspect that a tractor-trailer was responsible for the incident.
Caiden Adkins, a 15-year-old boy, lost his life early Sunday when he was struck by a hit-and-run tractor-trailer driver in Pryor.
According to police, Caiden was riding his bicycle along the side of U.S. Highway 69 around 4 a.m. when he was struck. Pryor police stated that the truck hit Caiden from behind on U.S. Highway 69.
The Mayes County Sheriff's Office received reports of debris on the road around 4:30 a.m., and Pryor Creek Police received two calls at around 4:50 a.m. about a person on the side of U.S. 69, just south of 470 Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered a bicycle and the boy.
Medical personnel transported Caiden to a hospital in Pryor, where he was pronounced dead.
Surveillance footage captured a tractor-trailer in the vicinity at the time of the accident. The police department has contacted the trucking company to identify the driver.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward. If you have any details about the driver, please contact the Pryor Creek Police Department at 918-825-1212.
FATAL ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION
In most cases involving hit-and-runs, the at-fault drivers feel they can avoid the consequences of their actions if they leave the scene. However, a suspect will face charges when apprehended.
Leaving the scene of an accident is a crime, but sadly statistics indicate that more than one hit-and-run crash occurs every minute on U.S. roads.
Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney, said in such cases is imperative to have an independent investigation conducted by a seasoned attorney promptly to protect the rights of a victim.
“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a hit-and-run accident case and prove negligence,” said Bond, a Managing Partner of Bond Legal.
“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors considered and examined,” said Bond.
These procedures are necessary for helping someone who has lost a loved one at the hands of a hit-and-run driver receive the justice and monetary compensation they deserve.
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
Pending the investigation, the family of Caiden Adkins may be entitled to a wrongful death claim for funeral expenses, the loss of love and companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma.
“An incident is considered a wrongful death when either a person or entity commits a wrongful or negligent act resulting in death,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel with Bond Legal. “When vehicle accident fatalities result from unsafe driving, aggressive or distracted driving, speeding, or driving under the influence, family members are usually left with the option to pursue a civil action against the responsible motorist.”
