Early Sunday collision happened along Ohio 46

BAZETTA, OH, (November 01, 2024) - A fatal accident occurred early Sunday morning, resulting in the death of 31-year-old Frank Walter from Cortland. The incident took place around 1:30 a.m. on Ohio 46.

Police Lights Frank Walter A fatal crash in Bazetta Township early Sunday morning resulted in the death of Frank Walter, a 31-year-old from Cortland.

Walter was traveling north in a 2006 Nissan Xterra, alongside a 35-year-old Niles woman, when the vehicle went off the right side of the road. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Nissan struck a culvert, overturned, and came to rest down an embankment. Both occupants were ejected from the vehicle.

As a result of the initial crash, a second incident occurred when a southbound 2014 Nissan Altima struck Walter, who was in the roadway. The driver of the Altima was not injured, but Walter was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital by Bazetta Township EMS.

OSP officials indicated they believe alcohol and speed were contributing factors in the initial crash. The agency is conducting an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding both collisions.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

“It is imperative to determine the exact cause of these types of accidents. An attorney has the resources to review applicable insurance coverage, hire expert witnesses, run background checks, and locate witnesses. We carefully guide the family of the victim through the process,” said Candice Bond, a managing partner with Bond Legal.

She noted that, in cases such as this, an independent investigation is crucial to preserve evidence.

“In addition to a police report, an attorney will carefully review what may have contributed to the crash,” said Bond. “A lawyer has the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct drivers’ background checks, locate witnesses to the crash and review applicable insurance coverage. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help guide an injury victim through what can be a complicated process.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the results of any investigations, the family of Frank Walter may pursue a wrongful death claim. Survivors of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident such as this.

Bond said, “Grieving families of victims are sometimes overwhelmed by the legal processes that are in place to protect their rights. An attorney can be a valuable and compassionate resource to help guide a family during this difficult time and ensure that those left behind receive the restitution they are entitled to.”
