Saturday night two-vehicle crash was at U.S. Highway 68 and Oakland Road

PIKE TOWNSHIP, OH, (November 16, 2024) - A Saturday night motor vehicle accident involving a pickup truck and a minivan left two people hospitalized with serious injuries in Pike Township.

Patrol LightsMelissa Lakes and Charity Effinger were seriously injured Saturday night when a pickup truck collided with the vehicle they were traveling in at an intersection in Pike Township.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OHSP) says a 2001 Mazda MPV minivan operated by 43-year-old Melissa Lakes, of Mount Orab, was heading southbound along US Route 68 at approximately 7:39 p.m. At the same time, a 2010 Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling westbound along Oakland Road collided with the Mazda in the intersection. After impact, the Mazda crashed into a ditch, while the pickup struck a utility pole.

Lakes was badly hurt and flown to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment.

A passenger in the minivan, identified as 21-year-old Charity Effinger, was also seriously injured and taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

An investigation into the incident is underway.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly 2.5 million people were injured in motor vehicle crashes in 2021.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors that are considered and require thorough examination,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Melissa Lakes and Charity Effinger may be entitled to injury claims, and they may seek recovery for damages, including medical expenses, future medical care, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma.

“A major injury means that there will be a lot of challenges ahead. Attorneys know how to handle all the legal aspects of a case so a person could focus on healing and moving forward,” Bond, who is also a national legal analyst for Newsline, said.

Bond added, “It doesn’t matter how large an insurance company a victim of a major crash is fighting; an attorney with experience and resources will ensure that the victim's right are protected and injuries are properly compensated.”
