Man fatally struck early Sunday morning while standing outside of disabled vehicle

CINCINNATI, OH, (November 10, 2024) - The Cincinnati Police Department says a 47-year-old man lost his life early Sunday morning in a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident along Interstate 75.

HighwayReco Williams was fatally injured early Sunday morning when he was struck by a vehicle along Interstate 75 in Cincinnati.

According to authorities, a Chevrolet Malibu traveling along I-75 stopped along the shoulder after experiencing a mechanical issue near Mitchell Avenue at approximately 1:30 a.m. Subsequently, Cincinnati resident Reco T. Williams was struck by a northbound 2019 Honda Accord after exiting the Chevrolet to assess the situation.

Williams was rushed to University Hospital Medical Center, where he sadly passed away.

A second person traveling in the Chevrolet was not injured.

The incident remains under investigation.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

This tragic accident underscores the dangers that pedestrians face every day in this country.

According to data from the Governors Highway Safety Association, the number of pedestrian fatalities in the United States has grown substantially faster than all other traffic deaths. An estimated 7,342 pedestrian fatalities occurred in 2021, an increase of 13 percent from the previous year.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors considered and examined,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond, an experienced pedestrian attorney.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Reco Williams may pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

"In the wake of a catastrophic accident, families deserve peace of mind. Completing an independent investigation while big insurance corporations want to weaken your case requires an attorney with full knowledge of the complex legal process and resources to fight by your side.

"Losing a loved one due to someone else’s negligence is an unimaginable tragedy. While no amount of compensation can bring them back, an experienced attorney can hold responsible parties accountable and help secure justice for your family."
