Tuesday's crash along Interstate 70 claims life of Indianapolis resident, says OSHP

HARMONY TOWNSHIP, OH, (September 24, 2024) - One person was killed and another severely injured after a three-vehicle wreck on Interstate 70 near milepost 68 in Harmony Township Tuesday morning, the Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) confirmed.

fatal crash car Jean Babylor, a 39-year-old Indianapolis native, was killed in a crash involving three vehicles Tuesday morning on Interstate 70 in Harmony Township, the OSP’s Springfield Post said in a release.

A Kia Forte and a Ford Fusion were traveling in the right lane while a Nissan Rogue was in the center lane around 7 a.m. Authorities say the Kia driver made a lane change from the right lane across all lanes of travel to the left lane and, in the process, failed to maintain control of their vehicle and collided with the Nissan. The Nissan's driver subsequently crashed into the Ford in the right lane. Both of these vehicles—the Ford and Nissan—then ran off the roadway and struck trees.

Jean Babylor, 39, of Indianapolis—the driver of the Nissan—died as a result of injuries.

A passenger in the Nissan was airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital with life-threatening injuries, OSHP said.

OSP’s Springfield Post is investigating.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding was the primary cause of fatal crashes in 2018, followed by the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication; failure to stay in the proper lane; failure to yield the right of way; and distracted driving.

While the cause and liability of the crash are being investigated, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, said that it is imperative to have an independent investigation conducted by a seasoned attorney.

“In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview important witnesses, analyze any surveillance video from the scene of the crash, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party,” said Bond, a national analyst for The Legal Advocate.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family members of Jean Babylor may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident.

“We understand that losing a loved one is not only a deeply emotional loss but also an economic one,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel with Bond Legal.

“If you have lost a loved one due to someone else’s negligence, contact a wrongful death attorney and get the guidance needed to obtain the justice you deserve.”
